Abstract

This qualitative study explored the career experiences of working mothers in law enforcement, analyzing their efforts to balance work and family against systemic and gender-related barriers that can lead to potential stagnation. It utilized a qualitative research design, specifically a case study, to answer the research questions. Moreover, purposive sampling was used in identifying research participants who were mothers, had experienced operational tasks in the field, and were willing to be interviewed. Then, a semi-structured interview guide was formulated as a tool to gather data. These gathered data were analyzed utilizing Yin’s data analysis. The research identified the values influencing the participants’ career growth and the struggles they encountered with themselves, the management, the organization. Findings demonstrated the mothers' remarkable resourcefulness, determination, and commitment. Furthermore, the participants employed diverse adaptive strategies, including self-help, rest and recreation, support groups, and women empowerment initiatives, to manage worklife conflict and to meet professional goals. The study concluded a call for organizational initiatives to promote gender equality and foster a supportive, healthy environment, ensuring these mothers' unique strengths are recognized and allowing the mothers to thrive professionally and personally.
